Early Life
MASSAPEQUA PARK
I grew up in Massapequa Park, New York. A huge town located on the south shore of Long Island, located about 15 minutes from the beach. Summers were filled with sandy hair and the smell of sunscreen. The best part of the day was showering and feeling the smoothness of your sun kissed skin. I started playing soccer when I was about 4 years old. My mother played soccer in high school and as a freshman, played in every varsity game. She had a love for the game that she wanted me to follow. At first…it was nothing like that. I hated going to play soccer. I thought it was boring and I hated wearing the pee-wee uniform. However, as I started getting older, the love and passion for the game just stuck with me. It was the one constant thing in my life that kept me grounded.
When it came to high school, I really thought that I wouldn't have made my varsity team as a junior. Soccer is one of the biggest sports on Long Island and the amount of girls that would try out every year and get rejected intimidated me to the core. My high school coach was not a very nice person. He believed that politics and who you know determined your worth. However, I stuck out the two-a-day for one whole week and ended up making my varsity team. However throughout my two varsity years, I would only play about 45 minutes in two years.
Switching over to travel soccer and my club team, there wasn’t one minute I did not play. We were invited to go play all over the country in some of the most competitive tournaments including ESPN Wide World of Sports at Disney World in Florida. We were always ranked in top 10 in New York State. There were even some tournaments where my coach would put two teams in and have one team play for both teams that way we could play as much as we could.
College Life
NEWBURY COLLEGE
Being on a collegiate team is something I was always looking forward to. I knew I wanted to be located in a city whether it be New York City, Boston, Chicago, anywhere with a city feel. I was being actively recruited by Emerson College, Boston College, Elmira University (Buffalo), and Newbury(but not until earlier in my senior year). After Emerson dropped me as a recruit late junior year, I thought I would not be able to play college soccer. I thought that I might as well stay home and go local. This is until Newbury came into the picture at the perfect time. I visited the school and looking back on it, it looks so different than when I was first here.
Being on a team has taught me so much especially in the last couple of months. My character has changed so drastically from freshman year to senior year. I feel like I have grown up so much and to be able to say that shows how mature I am. I was lucky enough to receive All Conference four straight years. I also broke the Newbury all time goals and points record. My name is stitched all over the record book.
With being on a team, I also learned time management skills. Being on a bus for four years at some points being on that bus for six hours, allows for a lot of time to do homework. Also just having practice from 6-8 or 5-7 at night is when I would usually do homework and trying to do homework after showering and just wanting to sleep is so incredibly hard. However, even with not having much time to study and do homework, I have continued to stick with a 3.0 GPA which is something I take pride in because of being the first person in my family to graduate.
Future Life
COMMUNICATION MARKETING
When I graduate, I obviously want to go on into my field. However, I am not sure if I totally want to go into the whole journalism sector of communication even though that is my concentration.
Something I have been really into is marketing and using all the strategies I have been taught throughout my four years and applying that to help a company market their brand. As of now, I am currently applying to these specific jobs. However, I am not completely closed to being a journalist. Being a writer was something I have wanted to do since my junior year of high school. As of now, I recently accepted a position as an account manager at Wellhart Healthcare Staffing in Woburn, MA. I am extremely excited for graduation in May and to jumpstart my career.
